Product Info

The T14 is Rainer Popp’s fourteenth trick lock, handcrafted in Germany from solid brass and stainless steel. It weighs a formidable 1.7 kg and measures 12 × 7.5 × 6 cm—an impressive piece both in scale and complexity

This padlock operates as a 13-step sequential puzzle, with no keyhole in the traditional spot—and a key that doesn’t work the way you expect. Popp designed it using modern CAD but infused it with inspiration from antique trick-locks, reflecting his love for restoring 19th-century creations

Each T14 is machined individually from solid materials, not cast—so the high price reflects unique craftsmanship, not mass production Owners report it’s a true beast of a puzzle—demanding patience, dexterity, and persistence, but delivering major “A‑ha!” moments when progress clicks into place.

This lock appeals to serious puzzle devotees who appreciate precision mechanics, rich history, and the satisfaction of conquering a true puzzle‑lock challenge.

This is a 3D mechanical puzzle and not a security device—do not use as a functional padlock.
Indoor use only. Not suitable for children under 3 years due to small parts and sharp edges. Choking hazard.

Rules are:
No hitting, shaking, force or gravity needed to open the lock.

The puzzle is very sturdy and made with high precision. I appreciated its craftsmanship while working on it, but I didn't particularly enjoy trying to solve it. Maybe it's just not my kind of puzzle as I usually do packing and dis/reassembly puzzles, or maybe it's just too hard for me to enjoy. My main complaint (spoiler-free) is that I think a few of the steps were too far beyond what can be deduced logically or by observing/feeling/listening for feedback while manipulating the puzzle. I also disagree with the description that no "force" is necessary - there were two steps where if I did not know from the instructions that a part would move I would not have applied enough force to move it.
