Solve the puzzle to unlock the box.

This is a well made wooden puzzle box.  It has a coin slot on the side so that you can place money on the inside and keep it safe.  Each Secret Box has a different solution to it.  You will need to be thinking outside the box to open these well made puzzles.

From Wei Zhang and Peter Rasmussen who are part of the Classical Chinese Puzzle Project:

"We’ve been collecting and researching the histories of Chinese puzzles since 1997. Occasionally we came across a box—around the size of a shoe box—that required an ingenious trick to open it. No two boxes were exactly alike, and some required a number of steps to open. Whenever we asked about the origin of these boxes, the reply was always the same: they came from Shanxi province. We began traveling around Shanxi in 1999 and found many more of these clever boxes in small rural markets. The boxes had been used by families with property to hold deeds and other valuables. One has an inscription dated “31st year of the Guangxu reign" (1905), proving that their use goes back more than 100 years. Today people enjoy the challenge of opening the boxes as puzzles rather than using them to hold their treasures.
These four puzzle boxes are based on antique treasure boxes found in China. Each has a different secret to opening it."

Purchased this for an 8-year-old (who has never really done these types of puzzle/brainteasers before) to be a money, or jewelry, box. As someone who loves difficult Cast puzzles, I was extremely pleased that I couldn't immediately solve, or see any obvious visible seam lines (which would give away the solution). Surprisingly, my spouse, who generally gets frustrated easily with brain teaser puzzles, solved it before me & I accidentally saw it open as she was putting it back together (which was a huge give away). As for my daughter, she was very pleased with herself when she solved it in under 10 minutes. And she impressed me as well lol. Not really what I would consider a level 7 but it's hard for me to judge, as it was the first puzzle box (of this style) I had handled... meaning I might hesitate to buy one under a level 7. Hands down very well made & I would recommend it as a starter box.

More like a level 2. It took about 10 minutes to open. I was expecting more.

This is a review for the #1, #2 and #3 bundle. #1 is to me the hardest of the three and the most satisfying to open. #3 is right below it in term of difficulty but in the same range I'd say (ignore the manufacturer rating, it's definitely not "intermediate") and almost a bit frustrating (in a good way). #2 for me was significantly easier, only really needing a single step to solve (again, ignore manufacturer rating, definitely not "expert"). Please note that I received a defective #2 that PuzzleMaster customer service handled quickly, but #1 and #2 had surprisingly good finish, seams were almost invisible and really helped with the difficulty. Super happy with the purchase, especially considering the low prices of each boxes. These are going to be gifts for my nieces (with cash inside), and #1 and #3 are going to be for the oldest two, and #2 for the youngest, I feel like the challenge will be balanced for each one.

This delightful puzzle was a real challenge. I bought it with the other two that were offered at the same time. All three puzzles are ingeniously crafted and use a lot of thinking and manipulating before they will open. There is room inside to fit a dollar bill or other trinket. The sides have "coin slots" so that the boxes can be used as piggy banks. No solution is enclosed.
