Years in the making, Less Is More is a brilliant anti-slide tray puzzle by Dr. Volker Latussek. This stunning puzzle debuted as a prototype at the Nob Yoshigahara Design Competition. Now beautifully brought to life by Pelikan, it features a sleek American Cherry frame and nine deep Wenge pentomino pieces.

The Ultimate Anti-Slide Challenge
At first glance, it looks like a standard packing puzzle where you fit nine pentominoes into a 7×7 grid. However, Less Is More is actually a multi-level anti-slide system with incredible depth.

The primary sequence requires a level of logic that will amaze you:

  •     Pack all nine pieces into the frame so that absolutely nothing can slide.
  •     Remove one piece—the remaining eight pieces must still lock perfectly and not slide.
  •     Repeat this process step-by-step, removing pieces until only three completely stable, non-sliding pieces remain!


Bonus Challenges Included
The fun doesn't stop there. Once you master the main sequence, dive into the secondary objective: select three or more pieces to create a perfectly stable, anti-slide assembly where no additional pieces can be added without creating a slide, and no pieces can be removed without causing the rest to slip.
