Screw Cage is a pentagonal cage puzzle with five pillars. When the top and bottom pentagon are aligned perfectly, then each of the five pillars fits at one position. When they are not aligned, then only three pillars will fit, but some at multiple positions. All five pillars are different. The puzzle is also coordinated motion, as all pillars unscrew simultaneously from the two pentagons.
The set of pieces took 8½ hours to 3D print on a Dutchy 3D printer. 15 meter (75 gram) of 1.75-mm birch and mahogany wood-filled PLA filament was used to print it, including 3D-printed supports to keep the bicolored pillars upright during 3D-printing. The puzzle itself weights 53 gram.
Oskar van Deventer has created many different puzzles including his brand of Oskar Puzzles which are mechanical puzzles and objects that can only exist thanks to 3D printing technology. Since 1978, he has been creating hundreds of mechanical puzzles, making him one of the world's most prolific designers. Several of his innovative designs are commercially available.
