Unity Z is an assembly-disassembly puzzle. Remove or replace the metal ring. It is made of strong translucent polycarbonate.  It seems like it is not possible to free the pieces from the orbiting ring, but this is the mathematical short and long of it:

"Unity Z is the unity element of the self organizing atomihedron system. It is the smallest circuit of the E link and is its own dual. The metal ring is not part of the Unity element.  Unity fills space by stacking. The surrounding ring can be removed or replaced. The ring shows the z spin axis of the Unity element."
