Product Info

A new version of an old box. This is the second style of the 20 Cent Box. Unlike its predecessor (whose objective was to free the coin), the objective is to open the box. Insert the coin into the opening on the top of the box. There is a hidden metal key that will help to solve the puzzle.

Made in laser-cut wood and stainless steel by Jean-Claude Constantin. Jean-Claude Constantin lives in Germany, where he designs and manufactures many different wood and metal puzzle, as well as magic tricks.

Build quality here is fantastic. It feels like a really well built, my only real gripe is the solution was pretty easy and once solved there’s no replay value in it at all. I passed it onto my seven year old to play with and when he was done it just sits in my cabinet now.

Great little puzzle. Highly recommend this one. Finding the solution was a great moment after just under 1 hour. Perfect puzzle for beginners, challenging but not insane. Nice, small and totally satisfying!

I thought this was pretty tough, took quite a while to solve but was satisfied with the solution! Fun puzzle and very worth the price at $40.

Great puzzle. Fun to share. Good durability. Only complaint is I paid for quickest shipping but it arrived a month after the original expected arrival date.

Awesome little puzzle. Very well made, and a satisfying solve. I can’t believe some of the mechanics built into this small box. So glad I bought this. Keep in mind this puzzle is about opening the box, not removing the coin. The metal key comes with it, but you have to find it. Version 2 is amazing.

DISCLAIMER: Those other reviews are for Version 1. This is for the V2. The objective is to insert the 20 cent coin in the slot and open the box to get it out. I think for the price this is an amazing puzzle! It's great to share with people. I give it 4 stars because... to keep it vague, mine came with a "defect" which I "fixed" but was unable to do so without spoiling the puzzle. I purchased one of the very first V2's and I hear the newer batches do not have the problem mine had; so you should be good.

Don't forget to put a coin in the box (a quarter works fine). This is a neat puzzle box and I really like that the contents of the box are an element of the solution. What I don't like about it is how fragile the tiny wooden key is. It's not a great puzzle to pass around because the key gets damaged if it's twisted and prodded too hard in unintended ways, and since you're trying to figure out a puzzle box that's exactly what you're going to do with it. Also, you can't actually put anything in the box because even something like a small folded piece of paper really gets in the way of the puzzle. Fun puzzle, but I'd prefer a more durable version.

This puzzle is a work of a great mind and too those who can't use their mind and solve the puzzle without instructions should not buy because I'm guessing your IQ is extremely low.

Maybe my favorite of all time puzzle, for now at least. Put a 20 cent euro coin into and try to take it back. For that you have just a key. It is very well done, feel very strong and the way to open it is not straight forward. My favorite type of puzzle is sequential discovery and this one could have been a really interesting step of a much more complex puzzle le this type where the key and the coin would have been tools found during the rest of the solving. It could be also fun in parties to do some bet of 20 cts that people can't open it.

Very simple, does not belong in 8 category. I'd give it maybe a 5.
